Sleep Apnea

It is estimated that one in four people have SOME degree of sleep apnea, and with more than two-hundred-thousand cases diagnosed every year, Sleep Apnea has become a major concern for us in caring for our patients.

The issue occurs when the airway gets constricted during sleep, reducing the amount of oxygen carried in the blood to the brain, heart, and the vital organs of the body. This is a life-threatening condition!

That’s where dental sleep medicine begins. After screening questions and an initial assessment, if we suspect a sleep-related issue we may recommend that you complete a home sleep study.  This can be completed in one night in the comfort of your own home.

The data is interpreted the next day and if there are concerns, the study will be sent to a sleep doctor who gives a diagnosis and a report.

Mild and moderate sleep apnea can be improved or eliminated with a dental sleep appliance that fits comfortably on your teeth while you sleep while opening up the airway.  It can literally be a lifesaver!
